On Cars and Relationships

A couple of years ago, a boyfriend and I were heading in different directions at the end of a summer. I was planning on avoiding the topic of the future of our relationships for as long as possible and was caught off guard when he brought up the topic in July. While I wasn’t up for having the conversation, the way he presented it was so wonderful that there was no way I could be upset.
In order to appreciate the greatness of it all you should know that I love(d) cars.
The conversation started with the boyfriend talking about convertibles. He pointed out how great and fun they can be in the summer. Not realizing where the conversation was going, I responded with my opinion on the variety of convertibles I liked and disliked and why. After patiently listening to me, he returned to the point of his conversation. He restated that the convertibles are fun in the summer but totally impractical in the winter: usually bad in the snow, can’t use the feature that defines the car, etc. Then he got to the point. He asked, “So, I guess what I am trying to say is, am I a convertible?”
Pretty clever, eh?
